Who is Guluoglu?
The Gulu family has been making baklava since the 19th century. It is known that the first person who started baklava in the family was Haji Mehmet Gulu, Known as “Gulu Shalabi” in Gaziantep.
Gulu Shalaby went, who entered the confectionery profession in Gaziantep, to Aleppo and Damascus, They are the two most advanced areas in the confectionery industry. In order to advance in the profession, he stayed for six months and learned the art of making baklava.
When he returned to Gaziantep, Proceed to prepare the baklava. After the death of Gulu Chalabi, His son Haji Mahmudglu continued his father’s craft and began making baklava from thin dough rolled one by one with a rolling pin.
The first baklava shop in Istanbul was opened in Karakoy in 1949. It is also the first baklava store outside of Gaziantep.
